February Community Cleanup
Make a visible difference in Ghent. This February, join neighbors for our monthly community cleanup as we walk the streets together, pick up litter, and care for the place we call home. It’s an easy, meaningful way to give back and strengthen community pride. Keep Norfolk Beautiful supplies safety vests and grabbers. We’re meeting at Van Wyck Library!

Ghent Social @ The Green Onion
Ease into the weekend with neighbors at The Green Onion. Ghent Social is your chance to slow down, enjoy good food and drinks, and reconnect with the people who make this neighborhood feel like home. Come for a quick hello or linger awhile—either way, you’re welcome.
March Community Cleanup
Small actions add up to big impact. Spend time with fellow neighbors improving sidewalks, corners, and shared spaces throughout Ghent. Every piece of trash removed helps make the neighborhood safer and more welcoming. Safety vests and grabbers are provided by Keep Norfolk Beautiful. We’re meeting on the corner of Warren Crescent and Mill. See you there Eco-Warriors!

Our Second Longest Table at Fred Heutte Garden!
The Longest Table returns May 31, 2026, from 4–7 PM at Fred Heutte Garden—an evening devoted to connection, conversation, and community.
Guests gather around one long, welcoming table in the garden, each bringing their own meal and drink to enjoy. Reservations are required to ensure space for all, but the spirit is simple and generous: neighbors meeting neighbors, sharing stories, laughter, and time together in a beautiful public green space.
No program, no agenda—just community, shared tables, and the joy of being together at The Fred.
June Membership Meeting
Join us in June to welcome Courtney Doyle and Jeremy McGee our City Council Representatives as they give us an update on all things Ghent and City of Norfolk.
4th of July Bike Parade!!!!!
Celebrate Independence Day the Ghent way at the Ghent Neighborhood League’s 4th of July Bike Parade, starting at 10:00 AM at Fred Heutte Garden.
This joyful, child-friendly community tradition invites everyone to decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, and scooters in red, white, and blue, then cruise together on a relaxed ride around the Ghent neighborhood. After the parade, we’ll finish at Stockley Gardens for make-your-own ice cream sundaes, sweet treats, and plenty of smiles.
We’ll be awarding prizes for the best decorated bikes, but the real focus is fun, togetherness, and creating memories with neighbors of all ages. This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary)—a perfect moment to come together in community and mark the holiday in a joyful, inclusive way.

GhentFest!!!
GhentFest is back on Saturday, October 10th from 3–6 PM, bringing neighbors together for an afternoon packed with classic community fun at Fred Heutte Garden.
Highlights include a pet parade (dress up your furry friends!), fried chicken and sides, and special visits from our local police department and fire station—complete with a fire truck to explore and admire. Folks can dive into field day games, get creative with arts and crafts, and enjoy balloon animals, while adults relax and catch up with neighbors.
GhentFest is all about celebrating community—easygoing, joyful, and welcoming to all ages. Come hungry, bring the kids (and pets!), and spend a fall afternoon making memories together.
If you come, bring a side dish (savory, not sweet). We can’t wait to see you there!!

GNL Holiday Party
The Ghent Neighborhood League Annual Holiday Party is the perfect way to wrap up the year together. Join us on Friday, December 11th from 6:30–9:00 PM for a warm, festive evening filled with yummy food, a boozy hot chocolate bar, tasty libations, and plenty of good cheer.
This is a relaxed, convivial night to celebrate the season and the community that makes Ghent such a special place. Expect cozy winter vibes, friendly faces, lots of laughter, and time to reconnect with neighbors old and new. Whether you’re sipping a decadent hot chocolate, sampling something delicious, or simply enjoying the company around you, the night is all about togetherness and gratitude.

November's Ghent Social at Jessy’s Taco Bistro
Friday November 21st from 6-8 at Jessy’s Taco Bistro. Join us for the next Ghent Social on Friday, November 21st from 6:00–8:00 PM at Jessy’s Taco Bistro! Please note the new time—we’ve shifted from our usual 5–7 PM slot to 6–8 PM to make it easier for folks to drop by after work and ease into the evening.
This is a relaxed, come-as-you-are gathering where neighbors can catch up, meet new friends, and enjoy food and conversation in a warm, convivial setting. Whether you’ve lived in Ghent for years or are new to the neighborhood, Ghent Social is a great way to connect, share what’s happening in the community, and support a beloved local spot. Join us at Jessy’s Taco Bistro and spend a couple of hours in good company with your neighbors.

Ghent Fest!!!
Join us for our first annual Ghent Fest! This family friendly event will feature a cookout (with vegan options), a build your own ice cream sundae bar and field day events. We’ll have some special visitors and activities lined up for the young and not so young. Bring a savory side dish and prepare to have a great time. Sunday, October 26th from 3-6PM at Fred Heutte Garden. Register Here so we have enough food and drink on hand! All are welcome and you don’t need to be a member of the GNL to join us.

State of Ghent Green Spaces Special Meeting!
Join the Ghent Neighborhood League for a special meeting focused on the State of Ghent’s Green Spaces. We will gather with city leaders, local nonprofits, and community members to discuss the current conditions of our parks and public spaces—and what we can do to improve them. This is a crucial opportunity to address issues of maintenance, planning, funding, and long-term care for the green spaces that define the character and livability of Ghent and beyond.
Together, we’ll explore solutions that can elevate not just our neighborhood, but Norfolk as a whole. Your voice and ideas are essential—please join us and help shape a greener, healthier future for our community.
Volunteer for the Blueberry Lab Project!
Join us as we work to begin the Blueberry Lab project directly across the street from Fred Heutte Garden. Beginning at 9AM and finishing at 11 we’re going to pull weeds and prepare the soil for fall fruit planting. Bring gloves and we’ll provide the rest, though if you have favorite gardening tools bring them! Come help make a difference in our community through this wonderful, innovative project.
Van Wyck Beautification Project
Join us Saturday the 19th at 8AM to help lay the groundwork for an educational native pollinator garden at Ghent’s beloved library branch. We’ll work til 11 digging, weeding and planting in preparation for fall planting. See you there!
